“From Big Toe to Pelvic Floor”

Did you know that the big toe has a direct correlation to your pelvic floor.

It’s because of the fascial frontal line. Think of the Biomechanics of your body.

Big Toe to the inner thing to the deep core (Pelvic Floor)

You know I speak about the fascia all the time. It is a connective tissue or a web like substance that surrounds our muscles and joints.

As a certified pilates instructor and a personal trainer, I often speak about the kinetic chain and how one thing never works alone.

In this case let’s take the Hallux (Big Toe) and go up the kinetic chain. As a barefoot trained specialist, I teach the principles of from the ground up training.

From the big toe we go to the adductors (inner thighs) traveling to the pelvic floor and deep diaphragm. We can activate our pelvic floor in a standing exercise called short foot.

Here is a video on how to perform the short foot exercise Click here

When connecting to the pelvic floor I will often cue “picking up a blueberry with your vagina” or “stopping the flow of urine”

This is when the diaphragm lifts and the pelvic floor is relaxed and strengthen. There should be no tension, no contracting of muscles and breathing should be fluid.

According to the Journal of Menopause in 2021 60% of women over 50 have incontinence. Pilates was shown to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and reduce the urge to flow.

Leaking is not normal.
