Is walking in midlife enough ?

Let me start by prefacing, movement is key and even if you’re only doing 1,000.00 steps a day, you are still taking steps to better health.

I  know you’ve heard that 10,000 steps a day is optimal right?

Well that may not be the case. Since everyone is different we all have different goals or health concerns. However, in midlife the goal is usually the same, keep healthy and fit.

The average person takes between 3k -5k steps a day on a normal day to day.

Once you hit midlife, your goals for your health will change. You want to remain active, stay strong and steer clear of injuries. You’ll realize that walking to hit 10k steps a day doesn’t equal heart health.

I mean walking is great, but if you don’t pay attention to your actual cardiovascular health, it’s pointless.

This is the age of technology and tracking. You can track and learn so much in your body these days. How much body mass index you have, how much skeletal muscle you have. Heck you can even find out your metabolic age.

There are many different trackers out there, I personally wear the Fitbit and I use an oura ring to track my sleep and my HRV.

As a midlife fitness and lifestyle expert, I can tell you that tracking your zone minutes are much more important

The Fitbit has 3 different zone minutes, one is fat burn, one is cardio and one is peak.

According to the National Academy of sports medicine, we need 150 total zone minutes a week. 75 of those minutes are to be in Cardio zone.

You will often hear me refer to the Orange zone minutes, those are the important ones to pay attention to in midlife.

In the ML METHOD membership, one day a week is designed to hit those orange minutes, and yes in the comfort of your own home.

Sometimes we walk and sometimes we do Tabata or HIIT. Regardless we make sure that our heart rate goes and we earn those orange zone minutes.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I’d love to help you stay fit, active and injury free.

I would love you to join one of my orange zone minute classes, take a look at the monthly calendar, and let me know which class you’d like to join.

In health,
