I started meditating more since the begining of this new year. I must tell you, I sleep better and I lost 5 lbs. The funny thing is I didn’t really know how to clear my mind.
I teach yoga, so everyone thinks I meditate all the time, that I must be an expert.
In fact, while you are in my class meditating, I am watching the clock not to go over time.
People often ask me, how do you clear your mind?
I don’t, if I did for 1 second it would be a miracle. LOL
So what is meditation? How does one actually meditate?
Definition: To meditate is to think deeply or focus one’s mind for a period of time to foster PEACE in the mind and body and to connect to our true self.
Notice in the definition is say’s “to think”
I always thought you should clear your mind of all thoughts. Once you did you would reach enlightenment, so why couldn’t I clear my mind for more than a few seconds.
I would sit in my office, unplug, and repeat mantra’s and try to clear my mind. Maybe a few seconds, then it would start….
What clients do I have today? What am I going to wear?
Stop Maria…Breathe, repeat a word 10 x to facilitate clearing of thoughts.
Over and over again…my mind goes into thought.
When we are in meditation in yoga, I always say “if thoughts float in your mind, think of thoughts as clouds, floating in and floating out”
My thoughts are always floating in and floating out. LOL
What Deepak said will change your thoughts on meditation forever. I know it did mine.
I will quote the master “Thoughts are part of life, you are alive so thoughts will always be present. Meditation is the silence between the thought”
WOW that is a game changer for me!
You are an observer of your thoughts and of your breath. In meditation they should mirror themselves.
Whewww, now I feel better. I can really meditate.
In fact I now look forward to my meditation and I do it twice a day.
Meditation is a way for you to bring yourself back to your core self? The benefits are endless.
1)less anxiety
2)promotes inner peace and calmness
3)more physical awareness (mindful eating)
If you try to meditate with this new found information, you really might learn to love it.
When I meditate now I am so happy to go inward, free of any technology, free of any distractions, free of any pains or aches.
It’s my little escape from the world. No one can come in and nothing I don’t want to think about can enter either.
When thoughts come in I now wait till they pass. I observe them, then let them go.
I encourage you to try meditation and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
