Aging in the Fitness Industry

When we think of aging in the fitness industry, who comes to mind?

The Queen of fitness Jane Fonda comes to my  mind. I mean to see her now at 84 looking as sensational as ever.

However, being in the fitness industry for almost 4 decades, I am the current aging instructor.

Social Media has us looking at all the superstar fitness models/trainers and instructors. Perfect bodies, able to perform an exercise with precise execution.

And then there is me.  My body is taking some hits through the years. Injuries and scoliosis are a constant. I have an extra few pounds (wink wink)  and my movement patterns or exercises are done with precision and intention to keep my body injury free and fit.

I am on social media and I am not ashamed of my body or how it moves at this point of my life. However, why don’t I see more of my aging body instructors and trainers out there?

Where are my normal regular peeps?

Why are we invisible?

I mean sure we have the instructors on social that are turning 60 like myself, and that have remained unscathed and somehow frozen in time.

I guess what I am calling attention to is the aging instructor with all their flaws, aches and pains being represented in the media in the industry as long time veterans.

I mean my body has been through the war, step, Tae-bo, cardio kickboxing, spin, etc….

I am proud to be turning 60 and I am so grateful for this machine I call my body.

Stay tuned for my 60th birthday body challenge.

When I was 40 I ran NY marathon, 50 I walked on fire…Let’s see what 60 will bring

Please share this with your favorite trainer and instructor that has been around for awhile.

Tell them how much you appreciate them.

XOXO

MARIA
