Have you heard about the “Movements that matter in midlife?” I sure hope so. These movements are what will determine the success of your senior years.
In 2021 boomers are still the largest population. That being said, we need to know what these movements are and how to perform them safely. As a corrective exercise specialist for boomers and seniors, safety is my utmost concern for my clients. When we Move Better, we Feel Better, when we Feel Better, we Age Better. It’s that simple, or is it. Let’s take the simple primal movements or the functional movements that we should be able to perform optimally.
- Sit to Stand
- Bend to Extend
- Push and Pull
- Rotation
- Balance and Bounce
How do we incorporate that into our daily lives?
First I would encourage you to get my Free video which shows most of these utilizing a chair. https://skyblue-fish-650057.hostingersite.com/thrive Which is a basic level 1.
It is a great way to understand how to perform all these movements safely and effectively.
Let’s face it, we want to be able to move freely in our senior years. Right?
Well, if you don’t practice you won’t perfect.
Recently on an episode of “Grace and Frankie”, Grace couldn’t get up from the toilet bowl. That one problem was the catalyst for their new business venture. A toilet bowl set that raises up with power.
While it was a hilarious problem, it was eye opening for me.
Here is one simple way you can start to practice “sit to stand” When getting up from your toilet bowl, or a chair, use your core, no hands. Practice, you’ll get there. If that was easy for you, try getting up from a small stool. Changing the base of your support challenges the body in so many ways. Level 3 would be to go from standing to sitting on the floor with no hands. That’s just a reach goal, not a must to Age Well.
