What’s the deal with energy, how can we get more of it?
Well, first let me start off with stating there are many forms of energy. We have kinetic energy, gravitational energy, electric energy and chemical energy, even spiritual energy (one of my favorites) just to name a few. Let’s focus on energy in our bodies and how to get more of it.
As a fitness instructor/trainer I see many clients complaining of having no energy. They complain of being tired all the time. I myself used to continually say, I was tired. I teach 18 classes a week and have many private clients in pilates and coaching. I am busy. I am also a middle age woman. That means my sleep is not the same as it used to be. I wake up a lot more, either feeling hot or cold, or just to use the bathroom. Clearly, my sleep is disrupted most nights. However, my energy level is NOT.
Here are my 5 tips to get more energetic starting NOW.
Tip#1 SLEEP Well of course, we know this, however, we know for woman of a certain age, this isn’t as wonderful as it used to be. I could normally sleep 8-10 hours a night. Nowadays, 4-6 of uninterrupted sleep is a blessing. Yet, I am full of energy all day. Here are my personal tips, if you do get up. Don’t look at the clock and close your eyes and lay there. I use that time to either manifest my life, or I pray. When I let go of trying to get back to sleep, It just happens. Some nights when I get up and I can’t fall back to sleep, I will read and think to myself, plenty of other ageless women are up too. Then I know I’m not alone. The fact that we are alive is better than the alternative.
Tip #2 MOVE, that’s right even if its 10 min every hour (fitbit now alerts us) movement is an instant boost. The body in movement means more circulation which means more blood to the brain, which equals more oxygen and energy. Nuff said!
Tip#3 EAT CLEAN no processed foods, limit all sugar, limit alcohol and eat whole foods. You can eat tons of veggies. You should eat fruit and you should eat lean protein. You also need carbs. You can choose your healthy grains but no white flour. My recommendation, sprouted grains. Eating this way is not an option. It is a new norm if you want more energy in your life. #foodmatters Please watch the documentary “Food Matters”. It changed the way I view food.
Tip#4 SELF CARE now as a middle aged woman, I know that self care is imperative but how does that equate to more energy? When a woman nourishes her soul she recharges her body which in turn will have her feel more energetic. What form of self care you indulge in? Here are some suggestions: take a bath, take a nap or get a massage. What ever form of self care you practice, make sure to SAVOR every moment.
Tip#5 POSTURE as a pilates instructor I speak about good posture all the time. What you might not know is that as a Life Coach I also speak to my clients about how they carry themselves, in their posture and in their lives. When you stand tall you exude confidence, when you sit tall you are confident and look engaged in the task at hand. Even if you’re just watching TV. Good posture ensures a better mood, which translates to feeling good with more energy.
